Kylie and Reuben Herrick are the owners and directors of Scape Goats.
Reuben is a qualified landscaper and horticulturalist, with a lifetime of experience in the industry. He has worked extensively in the fields of landscaping, garden design and horticulture. His interests lie particularly in landscape and garden design, with a focus on finding balance between nature and the client’s own practical requirements. He is passionate about the environment and New Zealand’s unique ecosystem.
Kylie’s background lies in corporate management and consultation. She specialises in facilities, information systems and human resources with specific interest in organisational culture and social responsibility. She is involved in various community initiatives and projects.
Together they have three grown children and live with their two rescue dogs in an apartment in Wellington CBD. Their ‘back yard’ these days consists of Wellington City’s award winning gardens, inner city parks, town belt reserves and spectacular waterfront.
Kylie and Reuben take every opportunity they can to give back to the community they love so much. They are volunteer gardeners at Mary Potter Hospice in Newtown. They have worked with various other charitable organisations, teaching low income families to grow vegetables, providing fundraising and sponsorship to Cystic Fibrosis NZ, providing elderly companionship services and volunteering at animal rescue shelters.
They find great satisfaction and fulfilment in seeing their Scape Goats team thrive, learn, evolve and succeed. They have instituted 14 landscaping apprenticeships and mentored trainees into leadership roles. They feel strongly about fostering their employees’ strengths and skills, providing training and upskilling opportunities whenever possible.
Frustrated by watching other trades businesses fail to meet their clients’ fundamental service expectations, Reuben and Kylie together started their own landscaping business. They established a strong set of guiding principles and applied their ethical business model to all business functions and operations.
Their business ethos continues to be the strongest amongst their local industry associates. They make no exceptions and recruit only the best people to represent their company, accepting nothing less than great workmanship and service from their teams.
The Scape Goats business model runs seamlessly, resulting in a high end, easy landscaping experience for their customers.
